Volunteers – Inte’Great Holidays

The Inte’great project provides activity holidays for children and young people aged between 5 and 18. The holidays take place in various locations offering city breaks and outdoor activity holidays. The holidays provide places for up to 8 children and young people giving them the opportunity to participate in activities like climbing, canoeing, abseiling and visits to places of interest. The holidays aim to develop self confidence and self esteem through the medium outdoor activities and residential breaks away from parents and carers.

Each holiday has three members of staff. Holidays run from Friday afternoon until Sunday evening.

Volunteers will provide additional support for the children and young people with disabilities ensuring that one-to-one ratio is avalible where required, providing encouragement and assistance for the children during the activities and assisting with the smooth running of the holiday project.

Where and When

We hold pre-holiday briefings before the holiday to encourage staff, volunteers and the young people to meet prior to the holiday. This is to aid knowledge and information about the young people you will be supporting.

The holidays are held at various locations in the UK and the staff and Volunteers usually meet at Heaton Moor to pick up the transport which conveys to pick up the young people from Manchester, Derbyshire ,Trafford  & Cheshire East (we can pick up volunteers from central locations linked to the area of the people we will be supporting) then on to the holiday destination - we pick up on Fridays and return on the Sunday evening.

Experience and Skills

Volunteers require good communication skills, excellent people skills and be willing to take in a variety of activities. Some experience of working with children and young people with disabilities and an awareness of the issues faced by disabled people would be advantageous but not essential. Volunteers need to be able to work as part of a team and assist to create a supportive environment where people can succeed.
